Effective teaching seeks to change society in substantive ways; therefore I strive to assist students in recognizing the values and ideologies that are embedded in texts and social and cultural practices.
My teaching has a strong focus on social justice, which is informed by my research on gender, sexuality, and the environment. In order to promote global citizenship, I help students develop their skills in social criticism by facilitating debate on topical social issues, while striving to maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment.
In the classroom, I make use of new pedagogical technologies such as virtual reality in order to develop critical thinking skills and explore the connections between empathy, embodiment, and social justice.
